Cycling in nature
What shouldn’t be missing on a bike tour in Carinthia is a visit to the Malta Hochalmstraße. The Maltatal, also known as the “valley of the falling waters”, impresses with the numerous waterfalls along the road. You can plan a stop in the “Nockberge” biosphere reserve. This offers beautiful viewpoints and with a little luck, you will discover some of the animals living there in the untouched nature.
You can discover all of this happiness on wheels in Carinthia yourself through your own bike paths, or simply follow one of the many bike trails. A total of 1300 kilometers of cycle paths are available around the rivers, lakes and cities in Carinthia. The Wörthersee circular route alone offers a total of 40km of cycle path on 40 different bike tours with different lengths and degrees of difficulty.
From Lake Wörthersee you can reach Tarvisio in Italy in just 50km. A perfect place to plan a relaxing break.
Slovenia can also be reached quickly from Lake Wörthersee. The caravans like Bled or Kranjska Gora, the Julian Alps or other beautiful classics like the Vršič Pass are a must for all bike lovers. Anyone who has a love for geology or mining should consider tunnel biking in Mežica. With headlamps and a mountain bike you get to know the five kilometer long tunnel system.

The Alpe-Adria cycle path
The Ciclovia Alpe-Adria-Radweg crosses borders from Salzburg to the Italian Grado in Adria. The cycle path, realized in 2008 with the help of the European Union, is 410 km long and leads through beautiful mountain landscapes. This leads through the middle of Carinthia and is therefore a great starting point, but also a beautiful region to rest. Due to the many tunnels and clear signage, the Alpe-Adria-Radweg is easy to master with a basic level of fitness. If you still have problems with altitude and fitness, we recommend renting an e-bike. More about the fascination of e-bikes in the article With a tailwind.
The Drau Cycle Path
Here on the Drau Cycle Path in the sunny south of Austria, you discover serenity and zest for life. It leads through natural areas of international importance and guarantees optimal mobility. The Drau cycle path leads through warm alpine bathing lakes with rugged mountain formations, but also through lively cities with dreamy villages. On the way, beautiful places on the Drau with their side streams appear again and again. You can marvel at green shimmering oxbow lakes and flowing waterfalls that end in huge reservoirs and glittering bathing lakes. At the end of the cycle path you are in the border triangle Austria-Italy-Slovenia. Riding an e-bike is also recommended here. Especially since the Drau cycle path was the first e-bike cycle path to be certified with 5 stars.

The 11km long Flow Country Trail on the Petzen in Southern Carinthia was named the best Flowtrail 2014 by the IMBA.
